  • Big W in Capalaba Central Shopping Centre customer review by Eric Frater

    - Dec 21, 2019

Shame on you BIG W my 82 year disabled father attended the Big W Strathpine on 27th November and asked for assistance to purchase Gifts cards for all his grandchildren. The store assistant pointed to the Apple I Tune Cards. My father took this to mean the these were the general gifts cards that would allow his grandchildren to get toys and other items for school next year. He the purchased $1000.00 dollars of these cards believing that they were the Wish Gift Cards which would give access to other products in the Big W stores. He then went to pay and the girl asked if these were for his family and he said yes for his grandchildren. Now don’t you think it would have raised a few questions at this time but apparently that’s all they asked and then let him spend his pension at no point did she explain about the cards. He then went back and because he was shown where the gift cards were the days before he then purchased another $300.00 of the same Apple I Tune cards again no one explained to him. When I found out about we as a family went back to Strathpine Big W and explained that he didn’t want his money back just the correct cards that he thought he was getting but was mislead by the assistant when they pointed to the Apple Cards. The girl at the service desk remember selling him the cards and she said I did ask him if they were for family. She never explained to him what he could or couldn’t do with these cards. I asked for the manager whildt we were at the service desk and she was extremely blunt and said” not refundable “ I explained that we don’t want our money back just want what he thought he was purchasing. She said and I quote ‘ I can’t be responsible for what my staff tell customers’. I have rung and followed up since this time with the managers waiting for phone calls which never came I have been going over there once a week to find out and kept getting told we have sent it to head office and we are waiting for a reply. On Tuesday again I went after work and the young man at the door rang through to let the manager know I was there . They did not have the decency to come and speak to me but relayed the message via the young man at the door that they are not refundable. This is a horrible thing to do to the most vulnerable citizens in our society. My father has just had to put his wife into a nursing home went and asked for assistance at Big W and was totally mislead in his purchase. I spoke to the store about the fact that they had placed the Sosa Stream Fountain display right in front of the general gifts cards blocking easy access. But they won’t do anything. No it’s far too late to send anything to Perth for Christmas becauseBIG W have made us hang on for nearly 4 weeks. I hope you can share this post to make other people aware of how vulnerable our elderly citizens can be in the hands of big companies. He doesn’t want his money back he just wants what he thought he was getting. Kerrie
